Oral Motor Speech Disorders
Facts about the Disorder
1. A motor speech disorder is when a child is physically unable to produce a sound
2. Can be due to an anatomical difficulty
3. Can be due to neurological difficulty
4. Example diagnosis’s are stuttering, apraxia, and dyspraxia
Treatment Options or Methods
1. A Formal and Informal Language Evaluation will be completed
2. Parent/Caregiver Report
3. Group and Or Individual Therapy
Symptoms of the Disorder
1. Difficulty producing certain sounds
2. Facial grimaces when trying to speak
3. Groping when trying to speak
4. Delayed onset of spoken language
5. Decreased intelligibility
6. Repetition of words and/or syllables
Diagnosis
1. A Formal and Informal Evaluation will be completed
2. Referral to Neurologist as Appropriate
